Last month’s blog talked about ‘taking a chill pill’ and putting on a facial masque. I really hope you tried this soothing remedy, because it’s all part of the same thing: TAKING GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF.
Day in and day out, there’s plenty to stress us out: traffic, work, finances, kids, spouses, parents, in-laws. And when we turn on the TV to relax, we get ‘breaking news’ that’s all bad. The holidays coming can seem like too much too soon (“Hey,” we say, “it’s not even Thanksgiving yet!”)
SO . . . when life brings that familiar headache, skin breakout or yet another head cold, how do we reach a point where we manage stress instead of stress managing us???
IT’S ALL ABOUT ATTITUDE
Whether you’re stuck at work at 5 pm on a Friday, or frustrated trying to cross everything off your To Do List … how you deal with Life determines not only the outcome, but whether or not you enjoy it.
And it all has to do with the little voice inside your head. The running monologue no one hears but you:
~ “I am never going to get all this done.”
~ “Oh no! Why does this always happen to me!”
~ “I hate-hate-hate this #@%$ traffic.”
This is that little voice that complains and bemoans and criticizes. We’ve all got one. But here’s the good news: you can shut that voice off whenever you choose.
Start listening to that voice. (The first time I listened, I was appalled. – and was so glad nobody could hear it but me.)
Stop listening to that voice. Ignore it!
Better yet – turn it off. The old saw, “Finding fault is finding trouble,” has never been more applicable. Just don’t go there.
And . . . when all else fails, just:
- Take a break
- Take a few deep breaths
- Try not to take yourself too seriously!
