Whether you’re sixteen or sixty,
dry flakey skin can be a drag —
but it doesn’t have to be!
How you treat your skin plus the products you use
will either HELP or HURT.
FIRST AND FOREMOST
Use a gentle touch when you care for dry skin –
no scrubbing or rubbing!
GOOD TO KNOW
Dry skin doesn’t produce enough of the natural oils that balance and protect your skin. Harsh cleansers make this problem worse because they wash away these oils.
To help your skin retain its natural oils, AVOID the following:
*Perfumed Soaps and Cleansers*
HOT water * HOT baths
*alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA)*
Believe it or not, baths and showers can make dry skin worse.
Use warm rather than hot water
Limit your time in the shower/bath to 5 or 10 minutes
Close the bathroom door and let the steam sink in
Wash with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser
Avoid bath sponges, scrub brushes and washcloths
(or at least use them very gently)
When toweling dry, don’t RUB. Pat or blot dry
Don’t overuse cleanser – use only enough to cleanse gently
Slather on moisturizer immediately after
Leave your face and body damp after washing —
this helps your moisturizer or lotion work better.
Yes! You can use an exfoliator!
Dry skin is actually a layer of dead skin cells that builds up
